Lookalikes: Doubletakes

I absolutely PROMISE that I did not go looking for this! I was actually skimming through Google Reader and came upon the Mailbox Monday post at Debbie's World of Books.

This is the book that caught my eye:

It seemed like something I would like to read, so I Googled it and, on the Penguin USA website, I found this:

. . . which looks an awful lot like a book from my wishlist:

. . . which was also on the Penguin USA website.
Well, I guess someone had to change something sometime! All I know for sure is that now I've got BOTH books on my wishlist!
Here's a description for each book:

In a small Alabama coal-mining town during the summer of 1931, nine-year-old Tess Moore sits on her back porch and watches a woman toss a baby into her family’s well without a word. This shocking act of violence sets in motion a chain of events that forces Tess and her older sister Virgie to look beyond their own door and learn the value of kindness and lending a helping hand. As Tess and Virgie try to solve the mystery of the well, an accident puts their seven-year-old brother’s life in danger, forcing the Moore family to come to a new understanding of the power of love and compassion.

LOL. I have been noticing this with book covers more and more lately. I had a post about it awhile back here.

Wow, how weird is that? What do you think those two authors think of their covers being the same? Sheeesh.

I know they use stock photos for covers, but I'm surprised to see two that are so alike from the same publisher.

lol-I love these lookalikes but, like Kathy said I'm surprised that both books come from the same publisher.

I've noticed the same thing, with a book called Torch by Cheryl Strayed and The Miner's Daughter by Gretchen Laskas.

I have The Well and the Mine but Velva Jean sounds like another book I will have to add to my wish list.

Wow - that is almost worth having both books for the story behind it.... wild.

This is getting to be so common! As an author, I would be really upset if someone reused my cover art. I think it's neat that you have a knack for finding duplicate covers though.

Thanks for bringing these to my attention. I love when some of you have profiles duplicate covers; very cool.

Had The Well and The Mine in my hands the other day and ended up putting it back for something else. But it's definitely coming home with me one of these days!
