Musing Mondays: June 8, 2009

Musing Mondays is hosted by Just One More Page

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about reading time . . .
Do you have a set reading time (before bed, perhaps)? Do you read more at night or during the day? Is there a day of the week, perhaps, that you set aside to catch up on reading?

Hmmm. I've always done most of my reading in bed at night. Over the past year or so, I've been waking up in the middle of the night and reading for an hour or two. If I don't wake up in the middle of the night, I like to read early in the morning before I get out of bed. If I have the time on a day off, I'll sack out for awhile in the afternoon; if nobody's home, I'll sack out on the couch. I hardly ever read while sitting in a chair. With two young children in the house, I don't get to read nearly as much as I used to or want to. Gone are the weekends of camping out on my bed with my Sharon Kay Penman or Margaret George historical, a few volumes of history, ancient and modern maps, and tour guides and totally immersing myself in another time and place. I guess I'll read like that again someday, but for now, I'm more likely to be sharing my bed with the Berenstain Bears then the British monarchy!

How about you? Where and when do you read?

MUSING MONDAYS

Musing Mondays is hosted by Rebecca at Just One More Page.

Today's musing is the following:

Coming towards the end of April, we’re a third of the way through the year. What’s the favourite book you’ve read so far in 2009? What about your least favourite? (question courtesy of MizB)

Whew! Glad we're picking "favorite and least favorite" instead of "best and worst." What I think is the best written isn't always the book I like best!

Now that I feel I'm off the hook, how do I narrow things down to just one favorite? I read from several different genres, so sometimes it can seem like comparing apples and oranges. I think I will base my choice on which book would I choose to re-read if I could only choose one. Hmmmm.

My pick for favorite is: THE KING'S DAUGHTER by Sandra Worth. I read this in early January and absolutely loved every minute of it. I'd read it again in a heartbeat. In fact -- I WILL read it again so that I can post a review. And coming in at a close second: HOTEL ON THE CORNER OF BITTER AND SWEET by Jamie Ford.

Least Favorite: Those Who Dream By Day by Linda and Gary Cargill. I think this book fell far short of it's potential, and I was deeply disappointed.

What about you? What did you like best and least?
