Description (from the publisher):
In the bestselling tradition of Rescuing Sprite comes the story of a puppy brought back from the brink of death, and the family he adopted.

In 2002, Larry Levin and his twin sons, Dan and Noah, took their terminally ill cat to the Ardmore Animal Hospital outside Philadelphia to have the beloved pet put to sleep. What would begin as a terrible day suddenly got brighter as the ugliest dog they had ever seen--one who was missing an ear and had half his face covered in scar tissue--ran up to them and captured their hearts. The dog had been used as bait for fighting dogs when he was just a few months old. He had been thrown in a cage and left to die until the police rescued him and the staff at Ardmore Animal Hospital saved his life. The Levins, whose sons are themselves adopted, were unable to resist Oogy's charms, and decided to take him home.

Heartwarming and redemptive, OOGY is the story of the people who were determined to rescue this dog against all odds, and of the family who took him home, named him "Oogy" (an affectionate derivative of ugly), and made him one of their own.

About the author (from the publisher):
Larry Levin and his family live in a suburb of Philadelphia, PA. He is an attorney in solo practice. He and his wife, Jennifer, have been married for twenty-six years. Their sons, Noah and Dan, are eighteen. Oogy is eight.

I am interested in reading this book. We have cared for rescue dogs for many years. We fostered puppies for the local shelter and have a 14 year old lab mix from the first litter and an 8 year old terrier from the last litter. We also have a pit bull my son got from a friend who didn't want the puppies to get into the hands of people who would use and abuse them. We have several rescue animals - snake, peacocks, pot belly pig.
Rescue animals are special and in many cases make wonderful pets.

I would love to win this book because I have adopted two different dogs from a shelter. The first one I had nine years and he died. I went and got a little Yorkie/Chic mix that weighs 9 lbs. His hair has the Yorkie color but is bery thin and wirey like a Terrier and He has those Chic. Bug eyes. He is like raising a rebellious two year old when he is bad and a sweet loving baby when he wants to cuddle on your neck sitting on my shoulder and he will sleep hours in my lap, He barks loud at the horses and if they are not in their pen, he barks cause he can't see them. When he gets upset he turns in circles so fast and so long I don't see how he walks straight after he does it. My eyes are not what they once were so I love the audibooks. ybutler@oppcatv.com
